200 Portraits
-Supernatural-
#80 - Sam Winchester
#81 - Dean Winchester
It seems this portrait project has turned into a project of admitting to every movie and TV show that I dork-out about. But yes…I am a long time Supernatural watcher and fan. I like the supernatural elements. I like the whole demon, angel, hunter thing. And I like Sam and Dean…even their melodramatic bonding that takes place in every single episode.

-Some Kind of Wonderful-
#61 - Keith
#62 - Watts
Moving back into John Hughes territory for a bit. Though this isn’t my favorite JH film I missed it when I touched on his films earlier…The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink to name my favorites. I guess this is my 3rd favorite? It’s a good, little romance but I never understood how Keith could be so blind to Watts…and then suddenly “gets it” at the end of the movie…credits rolling? Whoa! That was fast. Give us a few hints along the way that he may sense something. But what do I know? I’m a Duckie Dale fan.
I didn’t do the whole cast of this movie…which I probably should…but don’t feel bad for Lea Thompson who played the unattainable Amanda Jones. I’m painting her in the next batch of portraits when I return to 80s Movies I Obsess Over with Back to the Future -next week.

The Outsiders, Stand by Me, The Monster Squad, Lost Boys, Back to the Future…if you can think of any you’d like to see on the list…send me a note via the Ask Me button on our homepage!
And just to repeat what these portraits are all about…The 200 Portraits Project is a personal attempt at creating 200 trading-card sized portraits by the end of the year. It will be an exploration of drawing & inking styles while an exercise in capturing likenesses that I would normally never draw.

John Hughes themed portraits continue! Now for my favorite John Hughes film…PRETTY IN PINK! And now time to talk about the plot: My opinion? The girl should have stuck with Duckie. Yes, I’m a Duckie fan. Not that the character of Andy and Duckie should have been romantic…no, that wouldn’t have worked, but that’s not the point of being at the prom with him. The point of the original ending of the movie (where Andy and Duckie dance, credits roll) is that they don’t care about the Blanes and Steffs of the world. That’s just my opinion…but then I would never be attracted to a “Blane”. The majority of 80s girls didn’t agree.
For the holidays I received a book called You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried: A book about John Hughes, the Brat Pack and their impact on a generation. Needless to say…I blew through the book and it rekindled a sudden obsession with “brat pack” movies (which I own most of them).

I’m an huge, unabashed fan of John Hughes and his teenage movies of the 80s. For the holidays I received a book called You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried: A book about John Hughes, the Brat Pack and their impact on a generation. Needless to say…I blew through the book and it rekindled a sudden obsession with “brat pack” movies (which I own most of them). So, prepare as I continue my Portrait Series, for the weeks ahead will be themed by the man, the legend…John Hughes.
