200 Portraits- 31 horror portraits for EVERY DAY of October - - The Thing -
#132 - MacReady
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! And this completes my 31 horror themed portraits for the month of October. I thought I’d end with a bang with THE coolest character in horror…from possibly my favorite horror film…R.J. MacReady. Kurt Russell…you were never as cool as you were wearing that hat, sir. “I’m tired, Fuchs. I just wanna get up to my shack and get drunk.”

200 Portraits- 31 horror portraits for EVERY DAY of October - - Waxwork -
#125 - Waxwork Man#126 - Mark
True story…I got to meet Zach Galligan at this year’s Scarefest with comic pals Mark and Justin. We decided our opening line would be that his character in Gremlins inspired all of us to become comic artists. Turned out he actually is a super big comics fan and talked our ears off about the characters, books and artists he loves. Turned out…he was super cool. Turned out it made me go out and watch every film he’s ever been in…including Waxwork…which is a pretty fun watch.

200 Portraits- 31 horror portraits for EVERY DAY of October - - Night of the Creeps -
#123 - Detective Cameron
By far one of the coolest characters in a scary movie has got to be Tom Atkins in Night of the Creeps (one of my all-time favorite movies of the genre too). Not only does he deliver lines like “Thrill me.” and “It’s Miller time.” in places only he could make work…but “Corpses that have been dead for twenty-seven years do not get up and go for a walk by themselves!” which I’ll point out for trivial knowledge fans is a similar line of dialogue (delivered with the exact same beats) used by Del in The Monster Squad when talking about the mummy. It’s true.

Speaking of favorite movies of the genre…The Monster Squad definitely fits on my list of favorites! The next few days I’m posting portraits of “Cool Guys in Scary Movies”. Now I know I’ve done a portrait of Rudy before, but what can I say…this is MY portrait project and Rudy is pretty fun to draw!

200 Portraits- 31 horror portraits for EVERY DAY of October - - Aliens -
#117 - Bishop
This week’s theme for horror sketch cards seems to be single characters from significant horror movies. I’ve been able to include characters from both Alien and Aliens…so, my bases are covered when it comes to representing significant horror. If you’ve ever heard Lance Henriksen speak…he tells a great little story about the knife/hand scene with Bill Paxton. Apparently that expression of complete terror on Bill’s face…is not his acting ability shining through.

#116 - The Tall Man
This week’s theme for horror sketch cards seems to be single characters from significant horror movies. If you want to absorb quintessential 70s horror…just watch Phantasm. It’s dirty, it’s weird, it’s surreal…and you’ll be left saying “I don’t know what I just watched but damn that flying orb was cool.”

200 Portraits- Horror Edition -31 horror portraits for EVERYDAY of October!- Nightmare on Elm Street -
#113 - Freddy Krueger
The first Nightmare movie I saw was the third, Dream Warriors, playing late on TV one weekend. At the time I didn’t think I’d be interested, but with mixed curiosity I watched it anyway. Needless to say, the next weekend I went out and rented Nightmare on Elm Street 1-5 (yes…all these were already out) and had my first horror marathon. It was awesome.
